General Information

"Stones are the greatest witnesses to life in Alaçatı..." With this thought, we wanted to present to you all the memories and life from history by blending the period from the 1800s, when it was called Alatzata, to the present day Alaçatı. We built our small hotel using 57 trailer stones that we collected one by one from the collapsed Greek houses.

Incorporating Alaçatı architecture, we have 13 rooms in total, 5 of which are bay windows, in our Cumbalı Konak Alaçatı, which operates year-round. Additionally, we offer a village breakfast with organic homemade products from our region in our small, lush garden filled with the scents of geranium, bougainvillea, and lavender.

You will find a peaceful and unique atmosphere at Cumbalı Konak Alaçatı, a boutique hotel with 13 rooms, 5 of which are bay windows, located in the heart of Alaçatı.

Differentiating itself from other boutique hotels in Alaçatı, Cumbalı Konak Alaçatı offers you a pleasant stay with its special services in the center of Alaçatı.

Operating year-round, Cumbalı Konak Alaçatı holds an important place among Alaçatı hotels, turning your stays into unforgettable moments.

From our hotel, you can reach the famous Kemalpaşa Street, where restaurants are located, in just 2 minutes on foot. On Saturdays, a local market is set up in the area, including where our hotel is located. Apart from Saturdays, there is a public parking lot in front of the hotel where you can easily park your car. Other Notes

Alaçatı, formerly known as Agrilia in ancient times, was referred to as the Yaya Müsellem (Foot Cavalry) village during the Early Ottoman period. The village took its name from the Alacaat tribe that settled in the village at that time.

In the 1830s, Hacı Memiş Ağa, one of the prominent figures of the village, called upon Greek workers from Chios Island, who were impoverished due to earthquakes, to come to the village. The aim was to drain the swamp to the south of the village, in order to save a malaria-stricken village. In exchange, lands were allocated to the workers.

Due to malaria and canal work, a new village was established 2-3 km inland from the coast between 1850-1890. During this time, more Greeks continued to come to the region to work in the fields and vineyards.

By the end of the 19th century, the Greek population had grown so much that the village's name, Alacaat, was changed to Alatzata. In 1873, the Alaçatı Municipality was established.

Viticulture and winemaking turned Alaçatı into one of the region's most important commercial centers. Alaçatı experienced its golden era, but with the migration of refugees fleeing the 1914 Balkan War to the region, panic spread among the Greeks, leading to emigration.

In 1923, a population exchange agreement between Greece and Turkey resulted in the exchange of Greeks with Turks. Following this, Bosnians and Albanians from Bosnia and Kosovo, as well as refugees from Thessaloniki, Kavala, Istanköy, and Crete, moved to the region, changing the population of Alaçatı and the village’s name to Alaçatı.

In the following period, the local people, who did not know viticulture and olive cultivation, began to pull up the vineyards and attempt to grow tobacco and raise livestock. This led to difficult times due to the region's unsuitability for such activities.

In the 1990s, surfing enthusiasts discovered Alaçatı, which, despite its strong winds, has a calm sea, attracting even beginner surfers. Alaçatı became known for its surf tourism.

With its narrow streets and beautiful stone houses, Alaçatı became one of the most popular holiday destinations.

In Alaçatı, where the sea, village life, and stone house architecture combine, unique restaurants, boutiques, and small hotels started to open. Cumbalı Konak is one of the most important hotels in Alaçatı.

With the closure of the village center to traffic, Alaçatı’s destiny changed. Kemalpaşa Street became a shopping street where visitors could stroll and sit in village cafés and restaurants. The magic of Alaçatı was spreading by word of mouth.

PLACES TO VISIT IN ALAÇATI:

Köyiçi – The center of Alaçatı. The location of all the hotels, shops, and establishments.

Port Alaçatı / Alaçatı Marina – Port Alaçatı is an elegant residential area with a mix of marina and site. The main difference from regular sites is that boats, not cars, are parked in front of the houses. There are beautiful houses and a few restaurants here. If you don't own a boat, you might not visit often, but it can be a nice place for dinner.

Alaçatı Surf Zone – A place where windsurfing is practiced. It’s considered one of the best windsurfing spots in the world. Here, you’ll find several hotels, surf schools, and restaurants. It’s about a 10-minute drive from Köyiçi.

Ayios Konstantinos Church / Pazar Yeri Mosque – While Alaçatı is not typically a place for cultural sightseeing, you might want to visit the Ayios Konstantinos Church/Pazar Yeri Mosque in Köyiçi. When the Muslim population in the village increased, the church was converted into a mosque, but a small chapel for Alaçatı’s Christian residents was left intact. The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople performed a service there in recent years with special permission.

Windmills – These historical windmills are not frequently visited as people usually come to Alaçatı for leisure, but it’s worth mentioning. About 150 years ago, the Greeks built four windmills on a windy hill to grind wheat. There used to be 20 of them across Çeşme, but only 10 have survived. You might stop by for a photo.

Kemalpaşa Street – One of the most popular streets in Alaçatı, Kemalpaşa Street is quite peaceful during the day but gets very crowded in the evening. On this street, you’ll find famous spots, restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops, and handicraft stores.

Ilıca Beach – A popular beach close to the center of Çeşme, Ilıca Beach is one of the region's most popular beaches. Its clear water and pristine sandy beach attract many local and foreign tourists. Due to the shallow waters, it is especially a favorite among families with children.

Çark Beach – One of the most famous beaches in Alaçatı, Çark Beach is a favorite among windsurfing enthusiasts as it almost always has wind. If you’re not interested in surfing and prefer to avoid it, you can head to the beach or public area next to the bay. These areas are quite shallow, making them ideal for families with children or anyone concerned about swimming.
