PLACES TO VISIT IN ALAÇATI
Köyiçi - The center of Alaçatı. This is where all the hotels, shops, and venues are located.
Port Alaçatı / Alaçatı Marina – Port Alaçatı is a blend of a marina and a residential area. The biggest difference from a normal residential area is that boats are parked in front of the houses instead of cars. There are some beautiful houses and a few restaurants. If you don’t own a boat, you may not visit often, but it can be a pleasant place for dinner.
Alaçatı Surf Zone – As the name suggests, this is where windsurfing takes place. It is known as one of the best windsurfing spots in the world. There are several hotels, surf schools, and restaurants here. It takes about 10 minutes by car from Köyiçi.
Ayios Konstantinos Church / Pazar Yeri Mosque – While Alaçatı may not be a cultural sightseeing hub, you might want to visit the Ayios Konstantinos Church / Pazar Yeri Mosque in Köyiçi. When the Muslim population in the village increased, the church was converted into a mosque, but a small chapel was left inside for the Christian inhabitants of Alaçatı. The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople held a service here in recent years with special permission.
Windmills – Since Alaçatı is more known for its vibrant atmosphere, not many people visit these historic windmills, but it’s good to know about them. About 150 years ago, the Greeks built four windmills on a windy hill to grind wheat. There used to be 20 of them in the Çeşme area, but only 10 have withstood the test of time. Perhaps you might stop by for a photo opportunity.
Kemalpaşa Street – One of the most popular streets in Alaçatı, Kemalpaşa Street is quite calm during the day, but it gets very crowded in the evenings. The street is home to famous venues, restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops, and artisan stores.
Ilıca Beach – Located very close to Çeşme center, Ilıca Beach is another popular beach. With its clear sea and pristine sand, it attracts many tourists, both local and foreign. Especially due to the shallow waters, it is a favorite destination for families with children.
Çark Beach – One of the most famous beaches in Alaçatı, Çark Beach is a frequent spot for windsurfing enthusiasts due to the wind it gets almost all year round. If you are not interested in surfing and don’t even want to watch it, you can visit the beach or public beach next to the bay. These areas are particularly shallow, making them ideal for families with children or those who are concerned about swimming.
